Tech Note: 09052003 McAfee Personal Firewall and V-ONE's SmartPass In response to the conflict between the McAfee Personal Firewall and V-ONE's SmartPass, the following technical update has been issued by the V-ONE Engineering Group: In the latest release of the McAfee Antivirus and Personal Firewall, McAfee had removed the LSP module. This action rectifies the conflict between V-ONE's SmartPass version 4.4. The engineering group had tested with SmartPass 4.4 client with McAfee Virus Scan Home on the following platforms without issue: The McAfee Virus Scan Home can be directly upgraded to from previous versions. If the McAfee Personal Firewall is installed which comes with 7.x, you also have to upgrade to McAfee Personal Firewall Plus to remove Firewall LSP SHIM. If this is not done, it will still conflict with the SmartPass SHIM. Please note that if you have both McAfee Virus Scan HOME 7.x and SmartPass 4.2c installed, then you MUST uninstall SmartPass 4.2c first and then upgrade to new version of McAfee. The upgrade steps are as follows: 1. Uninstall SmartPass 4.2c and reboot the system. 2. Run sporder.exe and make sure there is no SmartPass SHIM. If it is 3. still there, then run lspfix to remove it. 4. Upgrade from McAfee Virus Scan Home 7.x and Firewall to McAfee Virus 5. Online and Personal Firewall Plus 6. Install SmartPass 4.4. or 1. Uninstall SmartPass 4.2c and reboot the system. 2. Run sporder.exe and make sure there is no SmartPass SHIM. If it is 3. still there, run lspfix to remove it. 4. Uninstall both McAfee Virus Scan HOME 7.x and Firewall 5. Install new McAfee Virus Online and Personal Firewall Plus 6. Install SmartPass 4.4 |
