SmartGate Technical Notes

Tech Note: 02102004

SmartPass 4.5 interaction with Outlook 2003

Issue: Users installing SmartPass 4.5 client on systems with Microsoft Outlook 2003 installed will see loss of connectivity with their Mail Client. This is caused by how the Outlook Client conducts hostname resolution to the Exchange Server.

Symptom: User will be unable to connect to Exchange Server and access mail.

Resolution: There are two options to resolve this issue.

(For POP and SMTP) The SmartGate administrator will need to add a TCP Access permission where destination is the IP address of the Exchange server and the Service is "Any". In addition, the user will need to define their Exchange Server by IP address on the Client system.

V-ONE Engineering is currently developing a Patch for this issue.
