Tech Note: 02032004 General Information Related to Shim Conflicts Issue: Currently a system with SmartPass 4.X installed could experience a conflict with various spyware and data-miners that may be installed on the system. Symptom: System will lose Internet connectivity and the shim will be corrupted. Detection: User may run the "sporder" command from the Windows "Run" command line to view the Shim'TCP/IP stack. Figure 1 -- Generic Windows Sockets Configuration window ![]() Resolution: With SmartPass installed the first entry in the stack will be VLSP. If any entry other than that is at the top of the stack, utilities such as Lavasoft's Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) can be run to cleanse the system of data-miners and spywares. After the spywares are removed, SmartPass should be uninstalled and the user should run the utility "LSPFIX.EXE to clean and repair the stack. This tool is available from the V-ONE customer support website. Once these steps are completed the user can re-install SmartPass on the system. |
