GERMANTOWN, Md., Oct 17, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- As the result of the recent interface of the FBI's Law Enforcement Online (LEO) and the federally funded Regional Information Sharing System (RISS) information sharing networks, V-ONE Corporation (Nasdaq:VONE), a leading provider of VPN security products, announced today that V-ONE will be providing additional SmartGate(R) VPN software for the newly combined networks.
LEO and RISS were interfaced with oversight by the Department of Justice. The Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) Program is composed of six regional centers that share intelligence and coordinate efforts against criminal networks that operate in many locations across jurisdictional lines.

LEO will join the RISS network as a new Federal center. Over 43,000 members are expected to utilize the new expanded information sharing network.

In a speech given on October 8, 2002, to law enforcement officials attending the International Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in Minneapolis, Robert Mueller, Director of the FBI commented "We are working to create a system using LEO, NLets, and RISSNET that will get alerts (to you) before you hear the story on CNN--not some of the time, but all of the time.
