GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 2004--V-ONE Corporation (OTCPK:VNEC), a global Internet security company, today announced the launch of a new Cross-realm Authentication feature that extends user authentication and access control across departmental and organizational boundaries. This feature, available in SmartGate(R) Release 4.6, is the latest enhancement to V-ONE's federated authentication capabilities. Federated authentication provides a foundation for validating users or services from various organizations that are part of a network of trusted partners and allows users to seamlessly access the resources provided by those trusted partners. V-ONE federated authentication delivers: Single sign-on (SSO) to simplify the end user experience. With SSO
a single action of user authentication and authorization permits access
to all computers and applications where the user has access permission,
thus reducing human error, a major component of systems failure. Cross-realm authentication is a highly cost-effective means of enabling acceptance of authentication information from multiple sources, without relying on a centralized third party. It integrates and leverages authentication sources from other organizations. Experts note that one of the basic failures of September 11th was the lack of a "network of people" with access and visibility into information. As a result of those tragic events, it became clear that an effective mechanism was needed to create a single virtual intelligence network to support communications across organizational boundaries. An important step in enabling the required collaborative information sharing was the successful interconnection in 2002 of the FBI LEO (Law Enforcement Online) network with the Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) network that provides services to more than 6,000 regional, state and local criminal justice agencies. "Securing cross-organizational access control and data flows was the critical next step. The V-ONE Cross-realm Authentication feature was specifically designed to support this requirement and further the RISS.net/LEO intelligence sharing initiative." V-ONE's security technology, as implemented in the RISS.net/LEO network, has been recommended by the National Criminal Intelligence Sharing Plan and approved by Attorney General John Ashcroft for implementation of a nationwide intelligence sharing capability.
