Message: AEP Earns Top Marks by Industry Experts
|
|

|
|

Over the last
few months AEP has been put to the test. We participated in an SC Magazine group review; the NSP
underwent two stringent certification evaluations; and we made the cut as
a finalist in two categories for the SC
Magazine European awards.
Getting tops
marks in the SC Magazine
review and being named an award finalist is exciting. But, it’s not
just about accolades. We take third-party endorsements seriously,
especially the security certifications.
Organizations
around the world depend on AEP Networks for secure remote access and for
keeping sensitive data confidential—it’s serious business.
Being recognized by industry experts is an indicator of product quality.
We’re pleased to report that AEP scored top marks in all these evaluations,
and we’ll continue to put our products on the line to achieve
validation by trusted third-party experts.

SmartGate Gets Kudos from SC Magazine
|
|

|
|
AEP
SmartGate earned four out of five stars in SC Magazine's recent Identity Management group test.
Test editors called SmartGate "innovative",
"imaginative", and "unique". Here's what they had to
say:
"AEP Networks' SmartGate was the most unique
solution we tested. This product is a secure authentication proxy that
runs at the application level of the OSI model. The product is similar to
a typical SSL VPN, but with added authentication components that make the
user's authentication tunnel more secure."

NSP Receives Rare ICSA Labs Certification
|
|

|
|
AEP
Netilla Security Platform (NSP) is one of only two SSL VPNs to
achieve Version 2.1 SSL-TLS
certification from ICSA Labs, an independent division of
Cybertrust. To achieve certification, the NSP satisfied 100% of ICSA
Labs' criteria and passed a rigorous mix of security, performance and
administrative tests in:
- Cryptography
- Administrative authentication and control
- Session control/clean-up
- Logging
- User authentication and access control
ICSA Labs'
certification is based on an industry-accepted set of criteria determined
by a consortium of SSL-TLS VPN vendors, end users and certification
specialists.

Viewpoint: Why Certifications Matter
|

Thanks
to compliance regulations like Sarbanes Oxley and HIPAA, network security
has become as much a business issue as a technical problem. Regulatory
compliance is holding businesses and software vendors to a higher degree
of accountability for security.
That said, many
businesses don't always take third-party certifications into account when
buying networking technology. Price, availability and preference
sometimes get in the way of 'tried and tested'. But, when it comes to
securing your network, vendor promises, market acceptance and user trials
don't always hold up. That's why independent certifications that involve
an outside, vendor-independent organization can be useful.
For instance, Network Computing magazine advises
security product buyers to look to third-party certifications instead of
taking a vendor's word for it: "Instead of relying on a brief
product demo or trial, check out the product's security certifications...
if you're fluent in security-certification criteria, you can glean
valuable information about a security device or software."
Independent
certifications aren't entirely foolproof. However, with a growing emphasis
on regulatory compliance, we believe choosing a certified product
continues to be the safest bet.

evaluation process to validate 28 claims regarding encryption,
authentication, endpoint security, single sign-on, and more.
A CCT Mark
ensures that anyone using the NSP within the UK Public Sector can fully
trust the SSL VPN for secure, web-browser access to business applications.
AEP is only one of two SSL VPN vendors to be awarded the CCT Mark.
