SCOPE provides reliable, secure communication regardless of the network type available

SOMERSET, N.J. (April 20, 2011) - AEP Networks, the provider of trusted security, has launched a highly secure communications platform to ensure the reliable transmission of sensitive information. Its Secure Communications Optimised Packet Engine (SCOPE) keeps communication lines open by switching between terrestrial, radio, satellite, WiFi and 3G networks based on availability and performance requirements. Crucially, in-field teams can be assured of the highest degree of privacy and integrity of both data and voice communication, regardless of location and network choice by integrating SCOPE with AEP Networks’ hardware-based Enhanced Grade Network Encryption solutions.

With the emergency services, maritime and armed forces constantly on the move in remote locations, in-field teams are reliant on the integrity and availability of communications to and from base, wherever they are.  SCOPE provides automatic end-to-end encryption and traffic management capabilities which ensure all data and voice communications are protected from interception and increase network reliability by selecting the best network available and optimising the traffic being transmitted.

“When it comes to mobile workforces such as the emergency services and armed forces, the availability, integrity and speed of communication significantly improves operational efficiency and saves lives,” said Mark Darvill, Director at AEP Networks. “Whilst interception of voice and data has always been an issue, an increased reliance on critical communications has resulted in a greater amount of sensitive information being transmitted, making a successful attack more attractive and high network availability a greater necessity. There is little doubt that organisations looking to avoid falling victim to targeted interception attacks need to make a switch to higher grade security to protect their communications.”

SCOPE enables the intelligent prioritisation of time-sensitive traffic such as voice and video that share bandwidth with non-sensitive traffic, such as email by ensuring that data does not consume all of the bandwidth. It achieves this by employing advanced traffic management technology which detects the presence of time-sensitive applications and ensures that the data is controlled so it does not monopolise the available bandwidth, ensuring that toll-quality voice is delivered across the link regardless of the data being transferred.

Typical uses for SCOPE include:

  • Armed forces - Reliable, secure communication regardless of the network type available between the field and HQ
  • Emergency services – In-vehicle secure and reliable mobile communication for voice and data with guaranteed performance
  • Maritime – Ship-to-shore voice and data communications for crew and passengers and point-of-sale transactions
  • Enterprises – Backup internet connectivity for organisations that rely on cloud-based applications

SCOPE is powered by AEP Networks’ VadOS platform.
